Salt Spring Island is within easy reach of large centres such as Vancouver, Victoria and Seattle by way of frequent flights or ferries. Although close to major centres, the island seems totally removed from the noise and frenetic pace of metropolitan living and, in fact, seems to be a world away.

Given the realties of its obvious boundaries, travel to and from this island includes the ferry service, commercial float planes, water taxis or private planes or boats. BC FERRIES schedules sailings to and from the docks at Long Harbour, Fulford Harbour and Vesuvius Bay, and connects Salt Spring Island to Mainland BC and Vancouver Island. Private vessels can use the docks and moorage at several locations along the coastline of Salt Spring Island.

Float plane services, including HARBOUR AIR, SEAIR and SALTSPRING AIR accommodate both visitors and locals who choose to travel by plane for commuting to work or for the sheer convenience of it.

As far as traveling around this island is concerned, the car has been king, but recently, a new PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM had been installed and is witnessing great success.  For visitors or locals who do not use a car or wish a pick up at the ferry terminals, other options include the Ganges Faerie shuttle service, taxis or CAR OR SCOOTER RENTALS .  One favoured option of the locals is hitchhiking, which is alive and well and considerably safe on Salt Spring Island.
